NaijaExclusive Artiste Focus: Mayorkun (The Mayor Of Lagos)

On today’s edition of NaijaExclusive Artiste Focus, we are centering our spotlight on a professional singer and song writer who has contributed greatly to the progress of the Nigerian music.

Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel well known by his stage name is a talented and multi-award winning singer. He rose to prominence after making a cover of Davido’s “The Money” which features Olamide that later got him signed to Davido’s imprint DMW. This led to the release of his first single, Eleko in 2016 and also caused him to quit his banking job that year after he was spotted. The singer got the motivation for his “Eleko” after he proposed to a girl and she turned him down saying he does not have money to take care of her.

Mayorkun, growing to become an eminent artiste maintained a very successful and hardworking career. Recording over 30 songs both single and featured under DMW made him a standout singer and performer. These songs recorded never disappoint whenever it comes to chart topping and winning awards.

Trailing down to 2018, one of the biggest years in the career of the singer; Mayorkun released a very interesting studio project tagged “The Mayor of Lagos” (TMOL), a 14-track album which lasts for 44 minutes. He featured prominent artistes such as D’banj, Patoranking, Olu maintain, Peruzzi, Dremo, Yonda and even his label boss, Davido. Mayorkun performed in big events such as the Wireless Festival and also continued his “Mayor Of Lagos” concert to make the year a remarkable one.

Mayorkun kicked off this year with a challenge for the hustlers, “The Hustlers Anthem”. A song produced by FreshVDM whose instrumentals were made available online for other musicians to make their covers. This year wasn’t just started on this note, Mayorkun also performed at the O2 Arena in London alongside Davido, Dremo, Peruzzi, Victor AD and other prominent artistes. Mayorkun has bagged seven awards of eight nominations according to Wikipedia.

The 25-year-old singer was born to the family of entertainers where his mother is a popular Nollywood actress and his father is an artist and a movie producer. It is no doubt that Mayorkun is at the verge of becoming a world-class singer and songwriter.
