Editorials: Top 10 Best Albums in 2018

2018 was a very big year in the Nigerian music scene as some of our favourite musicians blessed the air with superb musical projects. Amongst these are elites whose album or track of the album got ranked in the Billboard’s Magazine Charts. Sit back and take a cup of coffee as we present to you the 10 best Albums in 2018. Here they are:

  1. Outside – Burnaboy

Outside, a very well crafted project from Damini Ogulu which portrays his effectiveness in the musical atmosphere. The magnificent project from the afro-fusion singer received massive airplay from music streaming and downloading companies worldwide. Prior to the release of this album, Burnaboy became one of the Nigerian Superstars to have his album spotted on the Billboard chart, peaked at no. 3 in the Reggae album chart.

 

2. Life is Eazi (Vol 2; Lagos to London) – Mr Eazi

Following so much hype and anticipation, the Zagadat crooner dropped his third studio project which was well worth the hype. This project and the previous ones reflects the obvious escalation in the life of Mr Eazi, from About to blow to Accra to Lagos’ and now Lagos to London’. The album consists of various genre of music ranging from highlife, dancehall, reggae, hip hop to disco.

 

3. Kizz Daniel – No Bad Songz (NBS)

A 20-track album tagged ‘NBS’ released after his Independence actually included no bad song. The album features giant African acts such as Sarkoidie, Davido, Diamond Platnumz, Dj Exclusive, Nasty C and more. This write-up is incomplete without including his major hit songs from the album such as One Ticket, Madu and Ghetto which recorded massive airplay weeks after their release.

 

4. The Mayor of Lagos – Mayorkun

DMW signee, Mayorkun released his debut album tagged T.M.O.L late last year. A fantastic project which was a mixture of his talent and craftiness got spotted on the Billboard Magazine Chart peaked at no. 15 and ranked by performance.

 

5. Redenzvous – M.I Abaga

The self acclaimed ‘King of rap’ in Nigeria dropped his fourth studio album which he labeled ‘Redenzvous’. M.I who is known for classic rap music and also for his vigorous consistency displays his legendary skill by releasing two albums in 2018 and also facing other rappers raw on ‘You Rappers Should Fix Up Your Lives’. He features production from Chopstix, Odunsi The Engine and other energetic producers to come up with lively tracks that filled his album.

 

6. About 30 – Adekunle Gold

The self hermeneutic studio project of the Sade crooner happened to be his second. Adekunle Gold reflects about his life’s experience and also displays his maturity in making good music without the call of any superstar to be featured in the album.

 

7. Mafia Family – YBNL

Without much anticipation, the YBNL family dashed into dropping a sleek project. The album consists of 13 solid tracks of the entire YBNL artistes which last for 44 minutes. The album features the production of creative producers such as Killertunes, Pheelz, 2Kriss, Cracker Mallo and Zeeno Foster.

 

8. Greatness – Dj Neptune

Nigeria’s foremost disc jockey, Dj Neptune released his first ever studio album he titled ‘Greatness.’ He features Nigerian superstars to remain on the radar of good albums as he is now ranked as one of the most hardworking disc jockey Nigeria ever produces. He features the likes of M.I, Jesse Jagz, Olamide, Davido, CDQ, Runtown, Yemi alade and a lot of them.

 

9. Black Times – Seun Kuti

Following the footsteps of his legendary father, Fela Kuti, Seun Kuti returns with his third album. The album cosists of 8 songs which lasts for 1hour 1minute talks about the political instability and also reflects to the societal defects in the economy.

 

10. Oso – Brymo

The album that attracted a lot of controversy last year also have a lot of streams and downloads. Brymo, the man behind the 11 track-album made headlines as he was involved in an unimaginable video shoot that caused attention. The album is actually a brilliant one from the 32 year old singer who happens to be underrated.
